Matthew Cousens

Head of EMEA Equities BestEx Research

Matthew is Head of Equities EMEA for BestEx Research, a financial technology firm specializing in high-performance execution algorithms that reduce transaction costs and advanced trading tools that support execution and performance measurement. Matthew has more than 22 years of experience within equity markets, with particular focus on electronic and algorithmic trading, equity markets infrastructure and the impact of technology and regulation. Prior to BestEx Research, Matthew spent 15 years within tier 1 investment banks. Most recently Matthew was Head of EMEA Platform Sales for Citi where he was responsible for client distribution and execution sales across the cash equities platform. Prior to that Matthew worked at Barclays where he was EMEA Head of Equities Execution Sales and co-head of Electronic Trading. And before Barclays, he spent 12 years at Credit Suisse within the Advanced Execution Services (AES) group. At Credit Suisse, he initially ran wholesale distribution for the electronic trading business before transitioning to build out the quantitative client distribution strategy and then on to the position of Co-Head of AES Sales for EMEA. Matthew also has extensive experience in growing smaller businesses. Before joining Credit Suisse, Matthew was Head of DMA Sales at AKJ Ltd. (a global electronic broker dealer specialising in DMA solutions). And previous to this, he was a Director and General Manager at EBI Ltd where he was responsible for overseeing electronic brokerage operations and the day-to-day running of the firm.
